The Colorful Chemical Sea
Critical to the future.
A hypothetical story about what the consequences are of chemical coloring of clothing.
Many of our clothes have synthetic fabrics. By washing these synthetic fabrics, we release little particles called ‘microplastics’ through our drain into the seas, oceans and rivers. These microplastics nest in plankton and tons of fish eats these plankton.
And what they consume, we consume.
The clothing industry doesn’t take action and many people aren’t aware of this problem. Through this cape I am creating awareness. There are two sides of the cape; the chemical side and the biological side. By wearing the cape, one turns his back to one side of the cape and its story. On the chemical side of the cape is colored fishwaste presented, while on the biological side the same pattern is shown but in a footprint of natural dyed (shallots) bio cotton.
